How to Use AI Photo Effects: Photo Tips

Last updated:

The photo you start with matters more than anything else. Here is how to pick one, how the process works on this site and how to get a second, better result if the first one misses.

1. Choose the right photo

Use a recent, sharp photo with even light. Faces should look roughly toward the camera and take up a reasonable part of the frame. Sunglasses, heavy beauty filters, strong shadows and very small faces all make it harder for the AI to keep people recognisable.

For family effects, choose one photo with everyone in it rather than combining several. Five people or fewer usually works best.

2. Pick an effect and check the price

Every effect has its own page with examples and its price in credits. Photo effects start at 1 credit; a 5-second video costs 3 credits. Images made before your first purchase are standard resolution, and every image after any purchase is HD.

3. Upload, confirm and create

Sign in, upload the photo and confirm that you have permission from everyone in it. Card effects also ask for a short greeting. Photo effects usually finish in under a minute; you can leave the page and find the result in My creations.

4. If the result is not right

Try again with a different photo before changing anything else: better light or a straighter angle fixes most problems. If a result is clearly broken, for example a face is missing or the image is corrupted, use “Broken result?” on it in My creations within 7 days and the credits go straight back.
